Growth Hormone Response to Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone in Acromegalic Patients

Abstract
We have observed stimulatory patten of growth hormone (GH) response to growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH) and insulin induced in six acromegalic patients who had received hypophysectomy and somatostatin analog(SMS 201-995) 100§¡/d for six months.
The results were as followings;
1) The pattern of GH response to GHRH and insulin induced in the two patients of low basal GH (less than 10ng/ml, Group 1) were blunted and aberage basal GH lever was 7.68 and 7.59ng/ml respectively.
2) In group 1, maximal GH response to GHRH and unsulin induced have observed 12.4 and 9.7ng/ml in concentration, 1.6 tomes and 1.3 times than basal level and 15 min and 90 min in maximal response time respectively.
3) The pattern of GH response to GHRH and insulin induced in the four patients of high basal GH (more than 10ng/ml, Group 2) were stimulatory curve and averager basal GH level was 112.8 and 119.6ng/ml respectively
4) In group 2, maximal GH response to GHRH and insulin induced havr observed 655.8 and 290.9ng/ml in concentration, 5.8 times and 2.4 times than basal level and 90 min and 60 min in maximal response time respectively.
Therefore, we had considered the low basal GH group after operation and the somatostatin therapy had small GH resevoir in pituitary gland, while high basal GH group had partial responsibility to GHRH and insulin, but still had tumorous range of the Gh concentration.
We would investigate further study for the pattern of GH response to GHRH in more specified group of acromegalics for its pathogenetic understanding.
